Tiers
Plans and the ladder
Grouping subscription products, and letting customers move between them.
Plans
A group of subscription products that belong together
no stored settingsA plan groups subscription products so they can be treated as a set. The plan name is internal: customers never see it, they see the product names, so name it for your own clarity rather than for marketing.
The list shows how many products each plan holds, how many active subscribers it has, and the recurring revenue running through it. A plan health indicator flags the ones worth looking at, typically plans with no subscribers or no products.
Only subscription products can join a plan, and the panel refuses anything else rather than accepting it and failing later. Plan names must be unique.
⚠️ Careful: Deleting a plan requires a destination for its existing subscribers. Decide where they go before you start, rather than in the confirmation dialog.
The ladder
Products in price order, and moving between them
no stored settingsWithin a plan the products form a ladder, listed in price order, which is the order customers see. That ordering is the plan’s purpose: it is what turns a set of separate subscription products into recognisable tiers.
A plan can allow upgrading and downgrading, which lets a subscriber move between its products rather than cancelling one and starting another. That distinction matters commercially: a customer who downgrades is retained, while one who has to cancel to change tier frequently does not come back.
A plan with only one product has nothing to switch to, and the screen says so rather than offering a choice that cannot work.
Deleting a plan sits in a danger zone, and asks where existing subscribers should go, because they cannot be left pointing at a plan that no longer exists.
💡 Note: Allowing upgrades and downgrades keeps a customer who wants to spend less. Without it they have to cancel to change tier, and a cancellation is much harder to reverse than a downgrade.
