Why Square + EasyCart

How to Setup Square Payments
Visit the WP EasyCart › Settings › Payments & Taxes › Payment panel. Square goes on the Card payments line, and its settings open in a side panel from Manage.
Connect Square
Press Connect Square on the Card payments line, or Connect on Square under Add or change a gateway. Press Try sandbox there instead to connect a Square sandbox account first. The setup wizard’s payment step connects Square the same way.
Log In & Accept Permissions
You will be asked to log in to your Square account if you aren’t already, then accept permissions for the app. Finish the authorisation on Square’s side, or the page reports that Square did not finish connecting.
Sandbox and Live Accounts
You can connect both a sandbox and a live Square account. A store that started in the sandbox connects its live account with Connect live account, in the Square line’s … menu or beside Take live payments in Square’s settings. Once both are connected, Take live payments and Switch to test mode in the menu, or the Take live payments and Sandbox ( test payments ) switches, move Square between them.
Pick a Location & Digital Wallets
Once connected, press Manage on the Square line and open the Checkout tab to choose the Store location and turn digital wallets on or off, then press Save. Apple Pay requires one extra step to operate — see the Apple Pay section below for those directions.
Add a Merchant Name
If you use wallet payments, simply add a Merchant Name to appear on those wallet payments.
An SSL certificate is required
You must have an https:// secure SSL certificate in order to process live payments. You usually purchase an SSL through your web host provider on a yearly basis. We recommend you use the ‘WordPress HTTPS’ plugin to secure your store, cart, and account pages — or visit Settings › Checkout and force SSL to ON.

Square Settings Explained
The Square drawer’s switches control the connection and how deeply Square and EasyCart stay in sync.
- Take live payments: Turn ON and connect to your Square account by simply logging in and making the connection. This enables credit card entry on your website, and payments process through your Square account.
- Inventory sync ( PRO ): Turn ON if you wish to have your Square stock synced every hour. Webhook sync goes further: Square tells your store the moment stock or an item changes, and the drawer shows when the last notification arrived. If it says notifications are not signed yet, press Secure notifications. Inventory syncing will only occur for products which you have synced from Square — Square becomes your master record for product changes and inventory changes. Items put back in stock after a refund or a cancelled order go back into your Square inventory too, and items sold through a pay link or an order marked as paid come off it.
- Product sync ( PRO ): Turn ON if you wish to have your Square products synced automatically. Keep products you switch off leaves a product or variation you deactivate on your site off when Square syncs. Product syncing pulls any new changes from your Square products down to the WP EasyCart product system — including inventory, variants and modifiers, and other product information. Syncing happens regularly on hourly schedules.
- Gift cards ( PRO ): Customers pay with Square gift cards lets shoppers type the number of a Square gift card, such as one sold at your register, in the gift card box. It pays what it holds, and while it is in the cart the rest is paid by card through Square. Gift cards you sell are Square gift cards makes each gift card you sell online in your Square account once the order is paid and emails its number, so it works at your register too. If the group asks you to Connect Square again, reconnect and allow gift cards when Square asks.
- Refunds: refund a Square order from the order screen. If Square refuses the refund, its own reason is shown, and if Square cannot be reached, you are told nothing was refunded so you can try again.
- The card’s ZIP / postal code: Square’s card form starts with the ZIP or postal code from the billing address, and if the shopper types a different one it asks them to correct it before paying.
Square Checkout Options
The drawer’s Checkout group sets the store location and turns on Digital Wallet payments such as Apple Pay & Google Pay, with the merchant name shoppers see.

Power Feature
Setup Required for Apple Pay
Apple Pay requires an extra verification step be taken on all websites. You must upload a certificate file to your website and place it within a specific directory before Square will verify your site and show Apple Pay as an available option.
- Download the certificate file here
- Unzip this file or open it to find the certificate file called “apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association”
- Upload this certificate file to the following location: https://www.yourWebsiteURL.com/.well-known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association
You may need to create this .well-known/ folder on your website — and please be aware, the file does require it be exactly in this location.
💡 Special Note: Some users have reported that unzipping this file with certain programs will alter the file, and Square will not verify it. A Windows-based zip tool may be necessary depending on your operating system and unzip tool.
Using the Optional Square Product Importer
Once Square is connected, you can bring your Square items into EasyCart under Products › Import, also linked as Import products from Square in Square’s settings. Product Importer explains it.
