Who can open what
WordPress decides which EasyCart screens a person can open
no stored settingsInside WordPress, access to the EasyCart admin is decided by WordPress capabilities. Every EasyCart menu entry is registered against a capability, and WordPress will not even draw the menu item for a user who lacks it. A site administrator has every one of them by virtue of being an administrator.
EasyCart adds a WordPress role for this, WP EasyCart Store Manager, which holds every EasyCart capability plus file uploads, without the rest of what an administrator can do. Pick it from the Role list on a WordPress user’s profile.
The EasyCart role on a customer account is a different thing. It sets what that account pays, and with remote admin access, whether it can sign in to the EasyCart mobile admin apps and which panels it sees there. It does not open or close any screen in WordPress. That is covered on the User Roles page.
💡 Note: If a staff member cannot see an EasyCart menu at all, their WordPress user is missing that capability. The EasyCart role under User Roles only affects prices and the mobile admin apps.
The capabilities
One per area of the admin, so access can be granted a screen at a time
no stored settingsEach area of the EasyCart admin is gated on its own capability, which means access can be handed out one screen at a time rather than all or nothing.
Reports covers the reports dashboard. Store status covers the Store Status screen. Products covers the catalogue screens. Orders covers order management. Users covers customer records, roles and subscribers. Marketing covers offers, cart links, abandoned carts and gift cards. Settings covers the whole settings area. Diagnostics covers the health screen, and Registration covers licence registration.
One more, the manager capability, opens the Extensions screen, where extensions are installed and updated.
The practical shape of this: a packer needs Orders and nothing else. A bookkeeper needs Reports and Orders. A merchandiser needs Products. Only the people who should be changing how the store behaves need Settings, and only the people trusted to install software need the manager capability.
Assigning them
Through a role, a role editor plugin, or code
no stored settingsFor someone who runs the whole store, give their WordPress user the WP EasyCart Store Manager role. For anything narrower, WordPress has no built-in screen for editing capabilities, so use a role editor plugin or code: create a WordPress role for the job, give it only the EasyCart capabilities that job needs, and assign people to it.
Resist the temptation to solve an access problem by making somebody an administrator. A WordPress administrator can install plugins, edit files and change any setting on the site, which is a great deal more than access to the orders screen.
Note the direction of authority on EasyCart roles too: only site administrators can put an account into a role with remote admin access. A store manager cannot promote an account beyond their own level, which is what stops the permission system being unwound from inside.
⚠️ Careful: Do not fix an access problem by making somebody a WordPress administrator. That grants plugin installation, file editing and every site setting, which is far beyond access to a single EasyCart screen.
