Avatax Extension
AvaTax is a popular extension that pulls live tax rates from Avalara’s tax lookup system. The connection is easy to set up — a simple API account ID and API license key gets you started. Let the Avalara AvaTax extension do the heavy lifting on tax lookups for every customer order.
Step 1 — Download & Install the Plugin
Grab the extension from the premium members area and upload it to WordPress.
Upload the .zip to WordPress
Download and install the plugin from the premium members area. The download, like all other plugins, will be a .zip format file. Upload the plugin to your WordPress › Plugins panel using the ‘Add New’ and ‘Upload’ buttons.
Step 2 — Create an Avalara API Key
Two credentials power the whole connection: an API account ID and a license key.
Generate Your Account ID & License Key
AvaTax requires you to create a simple API account ID and license key. Get both by visiting Avalara’s site and following their license key instructions.
Step 3 — Add Your API Key to EasyCart
Paste your credentials into the AvaTax panel and choose how taxes apply to your catalog.
Configure the AvaTax Settings Panel
Navigate to your WP EasyCart › Settings › Tax Setup panel. A special Avalara AvaTax panel appears here once the plugin is activated. Choose between production and sandbox mode, then enter the API Account ID and License Key in the appropriate locations. If your whole product line falls under one code, apply a default tax code to all products. Selling individualized products with separate tax codes? Set those per product in the next section. Individualized Product Tax Codes
One blanket code covering everything? Enter it in the AvaTax setup panel above. Unique codes per product? Edit any product and you’ll find an AvaTax section within the Tax Setup of each item.
💡 Tip: As shown below, the item should be set to ‘Product is Taxable’, then enter the tax code in the appropriate location. You can view all available tax codes at taxcode.avatax.avalara.com.
