Getting started

Connect BlueCheck

What you need, your BlueCheck account, and which products need a check.

Before you start

What the extension needs, and your BlueCheck account

no stored settings

What you need. A Premium license, with BlueCheck installed from EasyCart › Extensions, which also installs WP EasyCart Premium. It needs WP EasyCart 6.0.2, WP EasyCart PRO 6.0.2 and WP EasyCart Premium 1.1.0 or newer. And a BlueCheck account. BlueCheck bills its own checks.

Which account. An API account ( customer.bluecheck.me ) lets WP EasyCart run the checks and use every setting on this page. A store account ( merchant.bluecheck.me ) uses BlueCheck’s own window, with the ages, states and methods set in the BlueCheck portal. Paste the token into Connection, press Check now, then choose which products need a check in When to check.

Coming from version 1? Your BlueCheck store account carries over and checks keep running. If BlueCheck’s own EasyCart plugin is still active, EasyCart screens ask you to deactivate it.

💡 Note: Without a current Premium license the settings and the product card are read-only, but checks keep running.

Connection

How this store talks to BlueCheck.

4 settings

Your BlueCheck account

API account: WP EasyCart runs the checks itself, and most shoppers are confirmed from their name, address and date of birth without doing anything more. Store account: BlueCheck’s own window asks the questions, under the rules set in your BlueCheck portal. Stores carried over from version 1 start on Store account.

API account

API token

From customer.bluecheck.me › Integrations. WP EasyCart Premium stores it encrypted and it never reaches shoppers’ browsers. After saving, the box shows dots and the last four characters. Shown for an API account.

Empty

Domain token

From merchant.bluecheck.me › Installation. It is public by design: BlueCheck’s window reads it on your checkout. Shown for a store account.

Empty

Check the connection

Check now asks BlueCheck whether the account works, without running a paid check. The status line at the top of the section then reads Connected, or says what is wrong: a token BlueCheck turned down, an account that is paused or inactive, or BlueCheck out of reach.

⚠️ Careful: Checks never quietly switch off. While BlueCheck is not connected, or the API token is locked because WP EasyCart Premium is not active, orders with restricted products are stopped at checkout and every EasyCart screen says so.

When to check

Which orders need an age check, and the age they need.

7 settings

Check age for

Restricted products checks carts holding a product from a restricted category, or one set as restricted in the product editor. Every order checks every order. Paused lets every order through without a check, and hides the orders list column.

Restricted products

Restricted categories

Products in these categories need a check. Shown when Check age for is Restricted products. A product can also be set on its own in the product editor.

None

Minimum age

21 and over, 19 and over, or 18 and over. Tobacco and vapes are 21 and over across the US. A product can ask for a different age, and a cart needs the highest age of anything in it.

21 and over

Countries that are checked

Only orders shipping to these countries are checked. Leave it empty to check every country. BlueCheck’s instant name and address check covers the US and the UK.

United States

States you cannot ship restricted products to

Shoppers shipping a restricted product to one of these states are told before they pay, and the order cannot be placed until they remove it or ship elsewhere. Some states only allow listed vape products, or none at all.

None

Remember customers who passed

A customer who passed is not asked again, unless the name or ship-to state changes. Only checks that ended up on an order or a subscription count.

Age-restricted products

The Age check card in the product editor

no stored settings

Open a product and go to Type & Behavior. The Age check ( BlueCheck ) card sets who can buy it:

Follow its categories: restricted only when it is in a restricted category.
Age-restricted ( the store’s minimum age ): always checked, at the Minimum age setting.
Age-restricted: 21, 19 or 18 and over: always checked, at that age.
Never age-restricted: never checked, even in a restricted category.

The line under it says where the product stands now: the age a shopper must be, or that anyone can buy it.

At checkout

How shoppers prove their age

The steps an API account offers, and what the shopper sees.

How shoppers verify

For an API account. BlueCheck bills a check when it finds the person, and a photo ID once the photos are sent.

6 settings

Ask for the date of birth

Adds a date of birth field to the Your age step and sends it with the check. US law asks online vape and tobacco sellers to collect it ( the PACT Act ). A shopper under the age is stopped straight away.

On

Photo ID when the instant check cannot confirm the age

When the instant check cannot confirm the age, the shopper takes a photo of their ID and a selfie on BlueCheck’s page, on the same device or on a phone by scanning a code. Turn it off and those shoppers cannot buy.

On

Offer the last 4 digits of the SSN first

Offers the last 4 digits of the Social Security number before the photo. Faster for many US shoppers. The digits go to BlueCheck and are never stored.

Off

When

Before payment checks at checkout, so the order is placed only once the age is confirmed. After payment takes the order first, holds it as Age Check Pending and emails the customer the photo ID link. It always asks for the date of birth.

Before payment

If BlueCheck cannot answer

What checkout does when BlueCheck does not answer. Stop the order asks the shopper to try again in a few minutes. Take it, check after payment places the order and holds it as Age Check Pending until the check is done.

Stop the order

Tell me about orders still waiting after

An order held as Age Check Pending for this long, 1, 3 or 7 days, gets you an email so you can contact the customer, send the link again or cancel it.

💡 Note: With a store account, these settings do not apply. BlueCheck’s window follows the rules in your BlueCheck portal instead.

What shoppers see at checkout

The Your age step, and what stops an order

no stored settings

When the cart needs a check, the one-page checkout, the classic checkout and the subscription page show a Your age step. It says the products are for adults of the cart’s age and asks for the date of birth.

With an API account, the name, address and date of birth are checked when the shopper places the order, and most are confirmed there. The rest get Verify with a photo of your ID, with a code to scan and finish on a phone, and the SSN option when it is on. The page carries on by itself once BlueCheck is done.

With a store account, Verify my age opens BlueCheck’s window, and WP EasyCart confirms its answer with BlueCheck before the order is placed.

The check is made on the server at Place order, so no checkout skips it. Express payment buttons stay hidden until it passes. A shopper under the age, one BlueCheck could not confirm, or one shipping to a blocked state is told why and cannot place the order.

Checks on your orders

The Age check card, the orders list and orders held after payment

no stored settings

An order with a check, or with a restricted product, shows an Age check card: the result, the method, the age required, who was checked, when, BlueCheck’s reference and how long the record is kept. The orders list has an Age check column and a filter for Age confirmed, Waiting for a check and Not confirmed. The check also shows in the order history and the orders export.

A check that has not passed gets buttons:

Check again: runs the instant check again, or fetches a photo ID result ( API account ).
Email a photo ID link: sends the customer BlueCheck’s page. It needs the date of birth they gave ( API account ).
Approve by hand: when you checked the age another way. You must say why, and the reason is kept on the order.

Held orders. An order checked after payment first gets the instant check on its address. If that does not confirm the age, it moves to Age Check Pending and the customer is emailed a Confirm my age link, with reminders after 1 and 3 days. A pass puts the order back to the status it had. A failure emails you to refund, cancel or approve it by hand.

Keep each order’s check

Each order’s check is kept until the end of this many full calendar years after the order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 7. The PACT Act asks for 4. The ID photos themselves stay with BlueCheck.

4 years

Adult signature on restricted orders

Label extensions such as Shippo, ShipStation and Stamps.com ask the carrier for an adult signature on orders with an age check or a restricted product.
