How it works
One key, one site, and what moving it does and does not touch.
How a license moves
One key, one site, and the newest site wins
A WP EasyCart license covers one WordPress site. The licensing server keeps one site against each key. Activating the key somewhere else replaces that site, and the old one drops off.
The site is your WordPress site address without https:// and www.. Moving to https or adding www is not a move. A new domain, a subdomain or a folder is.
Transferring moves the license only. Products, orders, customers and settings stay in each site’s own database. To bring the store with you, see Moving EasyCart to a New Website.
There are two ways to do it. Both end in the same place.
💡 Note: Moving a license never touches your data. All store data stays on your web server, not on WP EasyCart’s.
Move it
Two ways to transfer
Enter the key on the new site, or release it on the old one first.
Method 1. Enter the key on the new site
The quickest way, and the only way when the old site is gone
On the new site, install WP EasyCart and WP EasyCart PRO (see Installing EasyCart PRO), then open EasyCart › Registration.
Under Already have a license key? enter your Full name, Email address and License key, and press Activate license. The card says it plainly: if the key is in use on another site, it moves here automatically.
The license card then shows the new address under Registered URL. The old site loses its paid panels the next time it checks its license, so nothing is needed there.
The full walkthrough is in Registering Your License.
Method 2. Deactivate on the old site first
The tidy way when you are retiring a site
On the old site, open EasyCart › Registration and find Move this license.
Type your key into Confirm the license key and press Deactivate on this site. You are asked to confirm, because the Pro or Premium panels on that site lock until a key is entered again. When it is done, the page says License deactivated. You can use the key on another site now.
Then enter the key on the new site, as in Method 1.
The confirm field must match the key registered to this site. If it does not, the page says No license was found for that key.
⚠️ Careful: Deactivating locks the paid panels on that site straight away. Do it only on the site you are leaving.
Finding your key
Your purchase email or your account
Your key is in your purchase email and on the license card of the site that uses it now, under License key.
Your account at wpeasycart.com/my-account lists every key you have bought, with its support end date and the site it is on. On a site with PRO and no license, Forgot your key? links straight there with Open my account.
Good to know
Staging copies and troubleshooting
Why a test copy can take your license, and what to check if a move does not stick.
Staging and test copies
Do not register a copy you are not selling from
A staging or development copy on a different address counts as a different site. Entering your key there moves the license away from your live store, whose paid panels then lock.
If you register a staging copy by mistake, enter the key on the live site again. It moves back the same way.
Your live store keeps taking orders either way. Only the Pro or Premium panels and updates depend on the license.
💡 Note: The registered site for each key is shown on the license card. See Registration for every license state.
If it does not work
Common snags when moving a key
Features stay locked on the new site. Open Registration there. Opening it rechecks the license. If the card is missing, enter the key again.
Activation failed. Please try again in a few minutes. Check the key is copied exactly, then try again in a few minutes.
The old site still looks licensed. A site keeps its last license answer for up to an hour. Opening Registration on it refreshes it.
Still stuck? Open a ticket at wpeasycart.com/my-account.
